Summary

A vulnerability in the Netty library involves missing validation of the origin (bailiwick) of CNAME records in DNS responses. The DnsResolveContext does not verify whether the CNAME record originates from an authoritative source, potentially leading to DNS cache poisoning attacks.

Risk Assessment

The organization is at risk of DNS cache poisoning, which could redirect network traffic to malicious servers, leading to data theft or man-in-the-middle attacks.

Recommendation

Immediately update the Netty library to version 4.1.135.Final or 4.2.15.Final, which contain the fix for this vulnerability.
