Summary

Software running as a non-privileged user may perform improper GPU system calls, leading to out-of-bounds access and kernel null pointer dereference in an error path. The null pointer dereference occurs in a function running in a kernel thread, causing kernel exceptions, platform instability, and denial of service.

Risk Assessment

The risk is that a non-privileged user can trigger a system crash, leading to service disruption and potential denial of service (DoS) across the organization.

Recommendation

Apply vendor patches for the GPU driver immediately and restrict non-privileged user access to GPU resources where possible. Also monitor kernel logs for unusual exceptions.
