Summary

In the Linux kernel drm/xe/sync driver, the allocation failure path fails to release the user fence reference when dma_fence_chain_alloc() fails. This results in a memory leak.

Risk Assessment

The memory leak can gradually exhaust kernel resources and cause system instability with repeated failed allocations. It requires local access to an Intel Xe GPU device.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version containing the fix. Monitor kernel memory usage on systems with Intel Xe GPUs.
