Summary

The Let's Encrypt client and ACME library written in Go (Lego) prior to version 4.34.0 is vulnerable to arbitrary file write and deletion via path traversal in the webroot HTTP-01 challenge provider. A malicious ACME server can supply a crafted challenge token containing ../ sequences, allowing attacker-influenced content to be written to any path writable by the Lego process.

Risk Assessment

An attacker can overwrite or delete critical system files, potentially leading to privilege escalation, execution of malicious code, or full system compromise.

Recommendation

Immediately update Lego to version 4.34.0 or later, which contains the fix for this vulnerability.
