Summary

Sending a maliciously crafted message to Kea daemons (kea-ctrl-agent, kea-dhcp-ddns, kea-dhcp4, kea-dhcp6) over any configured API socket or HA listener can cause the receiving daemon to exit with a stack overflow error. This affects Kea versions 2.6.0 through 2.6.4 and 3.0.0 through 3.0.2.

Risk Assessment

An attacker can remotely crash the DHCP server, leading to denial of service (DoS) and potential unavailability of network infrastructure.

Recommendation

Immediately upgrade Kea to version 2.6.5 or 3.0.3 (or later), depending on the branch in use. If an upgrade is not possible, restrict access to API sockets and HA listeners to trusted networks only.
