Summary

OpenClaw before 2026.3.24 contains a symlink traversal vulnerability in the agents.create and agents.update handlers, which use fs.appendFile on IDENTITY.md without symlink containment checks. Attackers with workspace access can plant symlinks to append attacker-controlled content to arbitrary files, enabling remote code execution via crontab injection or unauthorized access via SSH key manipulation.

Risk Assessment

An attacker with workspace access can achieve remote code execution or gain unauthorized access by modifying SSH keys. This can result in full compromise of the host system.

Recommendation

Update OpenClaw to version 2026.3.24 or later. Until patched, restrict workspace access and monitor changes to IDENTITY.md files and symbolic links.
