Summary

A missing authorization check in Keycloak's admin REST API allows a delegated administrator to remove privileged child roles from composite roles without proper permissions. This can result in loss of access for other users and administrators.

Risk Assessment

The risk is that a limited administrator can escalate privileges by removing critical roles, disrupting system operations and causing access denial for legitimate users.

Recommendation

Immediately update Keycloak to a patched version that fixes the authorization flaw in the REST API. Until then, restrict delegated administrator permissions to the minimum necessary.

A flaw was found in the admin REST API of Keycloak, a solution for identity and access management. The issue occurs when a delegated administrator attempts to remove a child role from a composite role.
