Summary

A flaw was found in the GStreamer gst-plugins-bad package where processing a malformed H.266/VVC video stream with a crafted aspect ratio indicator causes an out-of-bounds read of up to 8 bytes from adjacent memory. An attacker can exploit this by providing a malicious video file or stream, leading to memory content leakage through video metadata.

Risk Assessment

The risk involves potential leakage of sensitive data from the application's address space, such as keys, passwords, or other confidential information, which could be exposed to an attacker via crafted video input.

Recommendation

It is recommended to immediately update the gst-plugins-bad package to the latest patched version. Avoid processing untrusted H.266/VVC files or streams until the update is applied.

Original NVD description (English source)

A flaw was found in the GStreamer gst-plugins-bad package. When processing a malformed H.266/VVC video stream with a crafted aspect ratio indicator value, the H.266 parser performs an out-of-bounds read of up to 8 bytes from adjacent memory. This flaw allows an attacker to craft a malicious H.266 video file or stream that, when processed by a GStreamer-based application, could leak limited memory contents through video metadata, potentially exposing sensitive information from the application's address space.
