Summary

CakePHP through 5.4.3 contains an sql injection vulnerability that allows attackers to inject SQL by supplying unvalidated collation values to StringExpression and IdentifierExpression. Attackers controlling a collation name passed to the constructor or setCollation() can append SQL after the unquoted COLLATE clause, affecting every database driver within the connection's privileges.

Risk Assessment

An attacker can execute arbitrary SQL queries with the application connection's privileges, potentially leading to data leakage or modification. The risk affects applications passing user input into collation names.

Recommendation

Update CakePHP to a version newer than 5.4.3. Ensure collation names do not come from user input and are validated against an allowlist.
