2.48%

85th percentile - higher than 85% of all known CVEs

Summary

OPNsense before 26.7.8 contains a command injection vulnerability that allows authenticated users with the System: Firmware privilege to execute commands as root by storing a malicious firmware mirror URL. Attackers can submit shell metacharacters through POST /api/core/firmware/set that opnsense-update evaluates with eval, and can also disable package signature verification through sed injection.

Risk Assessment

An authenticated user with the specific privilege can gain full control of the system as root. This may lead to complete takeover of the firewall device and disabling of security mechanisms.

Recommendation

Update OPNsense to version 26.7.8 or newer. Restrict the System: Firmware privilege to trusted administrators and monitor firmware configuration changes.
