Summary

Snap7 through 1.4.3 contains an out-of-bounds write vulnerability in the passive partner. A malicious active partner can declare an unvalidated BSend total length (up to 65535 bytes) and send a short fragment, causing BRecv to memcpy past the buffer and crash or corrupt SCADA, HMI or gateway processes.

Risk Assessment

An attacker from the configured peer address can remotely crash or corrupt industrial SCADA/HMI processes, potentially disrupting control system operations.

Recommendation

Upgrade Snap7 to a version later than 1.4.3 or enforce BSend length validation at the application layer. Restrict access to Snap7 ports to trusted peer addresses only.

Snap7 through 1.4.3 contains an out-of-bounds write vulnerability in the passive partner that allows a malicious active partner to overflow application buffers by declaring an unvalidated BSend total length. Attackers connecting from the configured peer address can declare up to 65535 bytes and send a short fragment, causing BRecv to memcpy past the buffer and crash or corrupt SCADA, HMI or gateway processes.
