CVE-2026-113351

MediumCVSS 5.9
Published: Updated: Translated: NVD NIST

Summary

libexpat 2.7.2 through 2.9.0 contains a denial of service vulnerability because XML_ParserReset zeroes the direct byte count but never offsets tracked heap allocations. Attackers can submit a large XML document so later documents on the same reset parser fail with XML_ERROR_NO_MEMORY until it is recreated.

Risk Assessment

An attacker can submit a large XML document to permanently prevent an application using libexpat from parsing subsequent documents, causing a denial of service.

Recommendation

Upgrade libexpat to a version newer than 2.9.0 or apply a workaround by recreating the parser after each reset. Monitor vendor updates for the library.
