Summary

Ghostscript has improper bounds validation when processing indexed color values in mesh shading data. A remote attacker can entice a user to process a crafted PDF or PostScript document, triggering an out-of-bounds memory read.

Risk Assessment

Successful exploitation can cause a denial of service via application crash or result in limited information disclosure. Systems processing untrusted documents are at risk.

Recommendation

Update Ghostscript to a patched version. Avoid processing untrusted PDF/PostScript documents in high-trust contexts.

Original NVD description (English source)

A flaw was found in Ghostscript. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by enticing a user to process a specially crafted PDF or PostScript document containing malicious mesh shading data. Due to improper bounds validation during the processing of indexed color values, Ghostscript triggers an out-of-bounds memory read. Successful exploitation can lead to a Denial of Service (DoS) through an application crash or result in limited information disclosure.
