Summary

RisingWave before 3.1.0 contains a missing authorization vulnerability allowing low-privileged SQL users to read and write arbitrary server files by creating posix_fs sources and fs sinks. Users holding schema CREATE privilege can set posix_fs.root or fs.path to any directory to read credentials and keys or write files as root.

Risk Assessment

Credentials and keys could be read and files written with root privileges, potentially leading to full server compromise. Multi-user SQL environments are at risk.

Recommendation

Update RisingWave to version 3.1.0 or later. Additionally, restrict schema CREATE privileges and review posix_fs configuration.
