Exploitation Probability (EPSS)

Low risk
0.09%

0th percentile - higher than 0% of all known CVEs

Summary

ImageMagick before 6.9.13-57 and 7.1.2-32 lacks proper synchronization when accessing the security policy, leading to a race condition between concurrent reads and writes by multiple threads, causing a heap buffer over-write. An attacker inducing concurrent security policy access can crash the application, causing denial of service.

Risk Assessment

Application crashes due to race condition can lead to denial of service; buffer over-write might be exploited for further attacks.

Recommendation

Update ImageMagick to 6.9.13-57 or 7.1.2-32 and avoid concurrent image operations in multi-threaded environments.

Original NVD description (English source)

ImageMagick before 6.9.13-57 and 7.x before 7.1.2-32 lacks proper synchronization when the security policy is accessed, so simultaneous reads and writes of the policy by multiple threads trigger a race condition that causes a heap buffer over-write. An attacker able to induce concurrent security policy access can crash the application, causing a denial of service.
