Summary

ImageMagick before 6.9.13-57 and 7.x before 7.1.2-32 contains uncontrolled recursion in the MVG decoder that can exhaust the program stack. An attacker controlling a file name processed by ImageMagick can trigger a stack overflow and crash the process.

Risk Assessment

Remote denial of service is possible through a crash of the ImageMagick process. This affects the availability of image-processing services.

Recommendation

Update ImageMagick to version 6.9.13-57 or 7.1.2-32 (or later). Restrict the ability to pass untrusted file names to ImageMagick.
