CVE-2026-107565
MediumCVSS 5.1Exploitation Probability (EPSS)
Low risk1th percentile - higher than 1% of all known CVEs
Summary
A flaw was found in luksmeta involving incorrect boundary calculations and flawed overlap detection. A local attacker with administrative privileges can write new metadata entries beyond available free space or over existing records, corrupting data on a LUKS device.
Risk Assessment
Corruption of metadata or encrypted payload data on a LUKS device can render the affected data inaccessible and lead to permanent data loss. Exploitation requires administrative privileges on the local system.
Recommendation
Update luksmeta to a patched version and back up LUKS headers before modifying metadata. Restrict local administrative privileges to the minimum necessary.
Other vulnerabilities in luksmeta
See all- CVE-2026-111555Medium
A flaw was found in luksmeta involving improper boundary validation of metadata slots. An attacker able to supply or modify a disk header can redirect wipe or load operations outside the intended metadata area, overwriting or zeroing out encrypted payload data and causing persistent data loss.
- CVE-2025-11568Medium
A data corruption vulnerability in the luksmeta utility for LUKS1 allows overwriting encrypted data by writing excessive metadata. Lack of space validation leads to permanent loss of user data.
Original NVD description (English source)
A flaw was found in luksmeta. A local attacker with administrative privileges can cause data corruption when saving metadata to a Linux Unified Key Setup (LUKS) device. Due to incorrect boundary calculations and flawed overlap detection, new metadata entries can be written beyond available free space or over existing records. This issue can corrupt stored encrypted payload data or existing metadata, potentially rendering the affected data inaccessible.
