2th percentile - higher than 2% of all known CVEs

Summary

In ImageMagick prior to 7.1.2-32, the delegate symlink cleanup does not check the MAGICK_SHRED_PASSES environment variable. This allows a local privileged workflow to overwrite a file with random data. The issue is fixed in version 7.1.2-32.

Risk Assessment

A local attacker with privileges can cause irreversible overwriting of arbitrary files accessible to the ImageMagick process, leading to data loss or system instability.

Recommendation

Upgrade ImageMagick to version 7.1.2-32 or later. Restrict the ability of untrusted local users to trigger image processing.
