Summary

In Payload CMS, the @payloadcms/db-mongodb adapter in versions before 3.87.0 and canary versions before 4.0.0-canary.20 allows an authenticated user who can update a document to modify fields that field-level write access control does not permit them to change. The Postgres and SQLite adapters are not affected.

Risk Assessment

A field-level access control bypass can allow users to modify data they should not have permission to change, potentially leading to information leakage or unauthorized system changes.

Recommendation

Update @payloadcms/db-mongodb to version 3.87.0 or 4.0.0-canary.20 (or later). Review user permissions and verify that no unauthorized data modifications have occurred.
