Low risk
0.10%

1th percentile - higher than 1% of all known CVEs

Summary

Cockpit CMS 2.12.0 before 2.14.1 disables TLS certificate verification in the cron.php web worker restart request, allowing network attackers to capture the worker token. Man-in-the-middle attackers on the outbound path to site_url can present any certificate to steal the worker/web/token value and start the web worker.

Risk Assessment

Theft of the worker token enables an attacker to start the web worker, potentially leading to unauthorized operations or further privilege escalation. The risk is especially high in environments where outbound traffic is not properly protected.

Recommendation

Update Cockpit CMS to version 2.14.1 or later, which restores TLS certificate verification. Additionally, secure outbound traffic to site_url with trusted certificates and monitor for unusual worker restarts.
