9th percentile - higher than 9% of all known CVEs

Summary

The bbp style pack plugin for WordPress up to version 6.4.8 is vulnerable to Stored XSS via 'display_name' and 'bbp_reply_content' parameters. Insufficient input sanitization and output escaping allow authenticated attackers with subscriber-level access or higher to inject arbitrary scripts that execute when a user accesses an injected page. Successful exploitation requires wrapping the reply in a <pre> block to prevent quote conversion.

Risk Assessment

The risk involves execution of malicious scripts in the browser of any user visiting the infected page, potentially leading to data theft, session hijacking, or further attacks. The attack requires a low-privileged account but can affect all visitors.

Recommendation

Update the bbp style pack plugin to the latest patched version. Additionally, consider restricting the use of <pre> blocks in replies if not essential.

Other vulnerabilities in bbp style pack

Original NVD description (English source)

The bbp style pack plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'display_name (via /wp-admin/profile.php) + bbp_reply_content (via bbPress reply form)' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 6.4.8 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. Successful exploitation requires the attacker to wrap their crafted reply in a &lt;pre&gt; block, which prevents WordPress's wpautop/wptexturize processors from converting straight double quotes in the stored display name into typographic curly-quote entities that would otherwise neutralize the attribute-injection.
