Summary

The Ninja Forms plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to arbitrary shortcode execution in all versions up to, and including, 3.15.5. This is due to the software allowing users to execute an action that does not properly validate a value before running do_shortcode. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber-level access and above, to execute arbitrary shortcodes.

Risk Assessment

A low-privileged attacker could execute arbitrary shortcodes, potentially leading to information disclosure or other unwanted actions. However, exploitation requires an administrator to have configured a Ninja Forms field with its Default Value set to the {wp:user_display_name} merge tag on a publicly accessible page.

Recommendation

Update the Ninja Forms plugin to a version later than 3.15.5. Until then, avoid using the {wp:user_display_name} merge tag as a default value in form fields on public pages.
