Summary

A bug in the Linux kernel mt76 WiFi drivers causes a system crash when using the wed_hif2 interface (e.g., for 6GHz link). The issue stems from incorrect WED device references in callbacks, which always assumed the primary WED device.

Risk Assessment

The organization may experience kernel panics during network traffic handling on MT7996 WiFi cards with WED offloading enabled on the wed_hif2 interface, leading to network service disruptions.

Recommendation

Immediately update the Linux kernel to a version containing the fix that properly identifies the correct WED device in mt76 driver callbacks.

Original NVD description (English source)

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: mt76: wed: use proper wed reference in mt76 wed driver callabacks MT7996 driver can use both wed and wed_hif2 devices to offload traffic from/to the wireless NIC. In the current codebase we assume to always use the primary wed device in wed callbacks resulting in the following crash if the hw runs wed_hif2 (e.g. 6GHz link).
