Summary

A vulnerability was found in the D-Link DIR-605L router (hardware version F1, firmware V6.02CN02) where the UART serial interface provides root terminal access without proper access control. An attacker with physical access to the UART pins can execute arbitrary commands with root privileges.

Risk Assessment

An attacker with physical access to the device can gain full control of the router, alter configuration, intercept traffic, or install malicious software. The risk mainly affects devices physically accessible to unauthorized persons.

Recommendation

Restrict physical access to the router and its UART ports, use enclosure protections, and consider firmware updates or device replacement if the vendor provides a fix.
