Summary

Mattermost Desktop App versions <= 5.13.0 fail to validate URLs external to the configured Mattermost servers. An attacker on a server the user has configured can send a malformed URL, causing the user's application to crash.

Risk Assessment

An attacker could remotely crash the user's client application, causing work disruption and potential data loss. However, this requires the user to have configured a malicious server.

Recommendation

Update Mattermost Desktop to a version later than 5.13.0 that includes the URL validation fix. Inform users about the risk and advise caution when adding new servers.
