Summary

The Parse function permits values other than IPv6 addresses to be included in square brackets within the host component of a URL. RFC 3986 only allows IPv6 addresses in square brackets; IPv4 addresses and hostnames must not appear there. Parse did not enforce this requirement.

Risk Assessment

This could lead to incorrect URL parsing, potentially enabling security bypasses or SSRF attacks. Organizations using this function may be exposed to unauthorized access to internal resources.

Recommendation

Update the component to a version that enforces RFC 3986 compliance. If not available, manually validate URLs before using the Parse function.
