Summary

Nagios Log Server before 2024R1.3.2 allows authenticated users with read-only API access to stop the Elasticsearch service via a /nagioslogserver/index.php/api/system/stop?subsystem=elasticsearch call. The service stops even though the API response indicates it could not be stopped.

Risk Assessment

A user with limited privileges can stop a critical logging service, potentially leading to monitoring disruption and loss of log data, hindering incident detection.

Recommendation

Update Nagios Log Server to version 2024R1.3.2 or later, and review API user permissions to restrict access to critical functions.
