Summary

In the Linux kernel, the mlx4 driver's mlx4_en_create_rx_ring checks the result of page_pool_create() for NULL instead of using IS_ERR(). Since the function returns error pointers (ERR_PTR), this can lead to an invalid pointer dereference.

Risk Assessment

May cause an invalid pointer dereference and kernel crash during receive ring creation in the mlx4 driver, leading to denial of service.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version containing the fix that replaces the NULL check with an IS_ERR() check after calling page_pool_create() in mlx4_en_create_rx_ring.
