Summary

In the Linux kernel, the drm/amd/display driver has a divide-by-zero vulnerability when dummy values in populate_dummy_dml_surface_cfg() are not updated. This can lead to a divide-by-zero error in functions like CalculateVMAndRowBytes(). The fix initializes the dummy value to 1 to avoid division by zero.

Risk Assessment

The vulnerability can cause system crashes or graphics driver hangs, potentially leading to system instability and display loss. In environments with AMD graphics, this can be disruptive.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version containing the fix. Also monitor the stability of systems with AMD graphics cards.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/amd/display: Avoid divide by zero by initializing dummy pitch to 1 [Why] If the dummy values in `populate_dummy_dml_surface_cfg()` aren't updated then they can lead to a divide by zero in downstream callers like CalculateVMAndRowBytes() [How] Initialize dummy value to a value to avoid divide by zero.
