Summary

Intel Ethernet Adapter Complete Driver Pack software before version 1.5.1.0 contains a time-of-check time-of-use (TOCTOU) race condition in Ring 3 (user applications) that may allow denial of service. The attack requires an authenticated user, adjacent access, and active user interaction.

Risk Assessment

An authenticated attacker with adjacent access could cause a crash or system destabilization, resulting in denial of service. Impact on confidentiality and integrity is assessed as none, while availability impact is high.

Recommendation

Update Intel Ethernet Adapter Complete Driver Pack to version 1.5.1.0 or later. Restrict adjacent access to trusted networks and users.

Original NVD description (English source)

Time-of-check time-of-use race condition for some Intel Ethernet Adapter Complete Driver Pack software before version 1.5.1.0 within Ring 3: User Applications may allow a denial of service. Unprivileged software adversary with an authenticated user combined with a low complexity attack may enable denial of service. This result may potentially occur via adjacent access when attack requirements are not present without special internal knowledge and requires active user interaction. The potential vulnerability may impact the confidentiality (none), integrity (none) and availability (high) of the vulnerable system, resulting in subsequent system confidentiality (none), integrity (none) and availability (none) impacts.
