Summary

A vulnerability in the web-based management interface of Cisco Unified Communications Manager IM & Presence Service (Unified CM IM&P) could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to conduct a cross-site scripting (XSS) attack against a user of the interface. The vulnerability exists because the interface does not properly validate user-supplied input. An attacker could exploit this by persuading a user to click a crafted link, allowing arbitrary script execution or access to sensitive browser-based information.

Risk Assessment

The risk to the organization includes potential session hijacking, theft of credentials or other sensitive browser-stored information, and execution of malicious code in the context of the trusted management interface.

Recommendation

It is recommended to update Cisco Unified CM IM&P to a patched version and educate users about the risks of clicking unknown links. Also, implement input validation and output encoding in the interface.
