CVE-2025-15022
MediumCVSS 4.8Exploitation Probability (EPSS)
Low risk25th percentile - higher than 25% of all known CVEs
Summary
Action captions in Vaadin accept HTML by default but were not sanitized, potentially allowing Cross-site Scripting (XSS) if caption content is derived from user input. In Vaadin Framework 7 and 8, the Action class is general-purpose, while in Vaadin 23 and newer it is only used by the Spreadsheet component. Fixed versions sanitize captions by default and provide an API to explicitly enable HTML content mode.
Risk Assessment
An attacker could inject a malicious script that executes in the victim's browser, leading to session or data theft. The threat affects Vaadin applications that display user-derived action captions.
Recommendation
Update Vaadin to version 7.7.50, 8.30.0, 23.6.6, 24.8.14, 24.9.7, or 25.0.0 and later. If updating is not possible, apply a workaround by sanitizing caption content on the application side.
Other vulnerabilities in Vaadin
See all- CVE-2026-91860Medium
A prototype pollution vulnerability exists in the deep merge helpers of Vaadin Charts and Vaadin Component Base. Merging an object the application does not control into a chart configuration or into a component's i18n property writes onto Object.prototype, making the injected properties visible to every object in the running application.
- CVE-2025-9467Medium
In the Vaadin Upload component, when the start listener is used to validate metadata about an incoming upload, it is possible to bypass the upload validation. Affected versions include Vaadin 7.0.0-7.7.47, 8.0.0-8.28.1, 14.0.0-14.13.0, 23.0.0-23.6.1, and 24.0.0-24.7.6.
- CVE-2023-25500Low
In Vaadin, in many versions, a vulnerability allows information disclosure of class and method names in RPC responses by sending modified requests.
- CVE-2023-25499Medium
In Vaadin, adding non-visible components to the UI on the server side causes their content to be sent to the browser, potentially leading to information disclosure. Affected versions include 10.0.0-10.0.22, 11.0.0-14.10.0, 15.0.0-22.0.28, 23.0.0-23.3.12, 24.0.0-24.0.5, and 24.1.0.alpha1-24.1.0.beta1.
- CVE-2022-29567Medium
The default configuration of the TreeGrid component uses Object::toString as a key in client-side and server communication in Vaadin, potentially disclosing values that should not be available on the client side. Affected versions include Vaadin 14.8.5-14.8.9, 22.0.6-22.0.14, 23.0.0.beta2-23.0.8, and 23.1.0.alpha1-23.1.0.alpha4.
Original NVD description (English source)
Action captions in Vaadin accept HTML by default but were not sanitized, potentially allowing Cross-site Scripting (XSS) if caption content is derived from user input. In Vaadin Framework 7 and 8, the Action class is a general-purpose class that may be used by multiple components. The fixed versions sanitize captions by default and provide an API to explicitly enable HTML content mode for backwards compatibility. In Vaadin 23 and newer, the Action class is only used by the Spreadsheet component. The fixed versions sanitize HTML using Jsoup with a relaxed safelist. Vaadin 14 is not affected as Spreadsheet component was not supported. Users of affected versions should apply the following mitigation or upgrade. Releases that have fixed this issue include: Product version Vaadin 7.0.0 - 7.7.49 Vaadin 8.0.0 - 8.29.1 Vaadin 23.1.0 - 23.6.5 Vaadin 24.0.0 - 24.8.13 Vaadin 24.9.0 - 24.9.6 Mitigation Upgrade to 7.7.50 Upgrade to 8.30.0 Upgrade to 23.6.6 Upgrade to 24.8.14 or 24.9.7 Upgrade to 25.0.0 or newer Artifacts Maven coordinatesVulnerable versionsFixed versioncom.vaadin:vaadin-server 7.0.0 - 7.7.49 ≥7.7.50 com.vaadin:vaadin-server 8.0.0 - 8.29.1 ≥8.30.0 com.vaadin:vaadin 23.1.0 - 23.6.5 ≥23.6.6 com.vaadin:vaadin24.0.0 - 24.8.13 ≥24.8.14 com.vaadin:vaadin24.9.0 - 24.9.6 ≥24.9.7 com.vaadin:vaadin-spreadsheet-flow 23.1.0 - 23.6.5 ≥23.6.6 com.vaadin:vaadin-spreadsheet-flow 24.0.0 - 24.8.13 ≥24.8.14 com.vaadin:vaadin-spreadsheet-flow 24.9.0 - 24.9.6 ≥24.9.7
