Summary

The SOAP HTTP client guards its response buffer growth with a check that relies on signed integer overflow, which is undefined behavior and may not trigger. When the check is optimized away, a malicious SOAP server can cause allocation of a buffer too small, leading to heap buffer overflow.

Risk Assessment

A malicious SOAP server can exploit this vulnerability to execute remote code or cause a client crash, posing a serious risk to system integrity.

Recommendation

It is recommended to update the SOAP client to a version that correctly handles buffer growth or apply available security patches.

Original NVD description (English source)

The SOAP HTTP client guards its response buffer growth with a check that relies on signed integer overflow, which is undefined behaviour and is not guaranteed to trigger. When the check is optimised away, a malicious SOAP server can make the client allocate a buffer far smaller than the data it then writes into it, producing a heap buffer overflow.
