Summary

The extract_name function in Fluent Bit's in_docker input plugin copies container names into a fixed-size stack buffer without validating length. An attacker who can create containers or control container names can supply a long name that overflows the buffer, leading to process crash or arbitrary code execution.

Risk Assessment

An attacker able to create or name Docker containers can trigger a buffer overflow in Fluent Bit. This may cause the log collection process to crash or allow arbitrary code execution in the service context.

Recommendation

Update Fluent Bit to a version that includes the fix for this vulnerability. Restrict container creation privileges and control container names in the Docker environment.
