Summary

The Conditional Maintenance Mode for WordPress plugin is vulnerable to Cross-Site Request Forgery in all versions up to and including 1.0.0 due to missing nonce validation when toggling maintenance mode status. An unauthenticated attacker can enable or disable the site's maintenance mode via a forged request if they trick an administrator into clicking a link.

Risk Assessment

An attacker could remotely toggle the site's maintenance mode, causing site unavailability or unexpected restoration. This requires administrator interaction, but the impact may be felt by users.

Recommendation

Update the Conditional Maintenance Mode plugin to a version later than 1.0.0 if a fix is available. Until then, consider disabling the plugin or implementing additional CSRF protections.

The Conditional Maintenance Mode for WordPress plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Cross-Site Request Forgery in all versions up to, and including, 1.0.0. This is due to missing nonce validation when toggling the maintenance mode status. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to enable or disable the site's maintenance mode via a forged request granted they can trick an administrator into performing an action such as clicking on a link.
