Summary

The ST Categories Widget plugin for WordPress up to version 1.0.0 is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the st-categories shortcode due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user supplied attributes. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers with contributor-level access and above to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page.

Risk Assessment

An attacker can inject malicious scripts that execute in visitors' browsers, potentially leading to data theft, session hijacking, or malware distribution.

Recommendation

It is recommended to update the ST Categories Widget plugin to the latest version that includes a fix for the XSS vulnerability, and restrict permissions for users with contributor access.
