Summary

The AP Background plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'adv_parallax_back' shortcode in versions up to and including 3.8.2. This is due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied attributes. Authenticated attackers with contributor-level access or higher can inject arbitrary web scripts that execute when a user visits an affected page.

Risk Assessment

The risk involves the injection of malicious scripts, potentially leading to session hijacking, account takeover, or malware distribution. However, the attack requires authentication at the contributor level, limiting the pool of potential attackers.

Recommendation

Update the AP Background plugin to the latest patched version immediately. Additionally, restrict user privileges and regularly audit content for suspicious scripts.

The AP Background plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the plugin's 'adv_parallax_back' shortcode in all versions up to, and including, 3.8.2 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user supplied attributes. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with contributor-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page.
