Summary

In the Linux kernel, a vulnerability was resolved in nfsd where if not enough buffer space is available but idmap_lookup triggers lookup_fn which calls cache_get and returns successfully, the corresponding cache_put is missed. This leads to a reference leak.

Risk Assessment

May lead to a memory leak in the nfsd subsystem, potentially causing resource exhaustion and denial of service over time.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version containing the fix that adds the missing cache_put call when xdr_reserve_space fails.

Original NVD description (English source)

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nfsd: call cache_put if xdr_reserve_space returns NULL If not enough buffer space available, but idmap_lookup has triggered lookup_fn which calls cache_get and returns successfully. Then we missed to call cache_put here which pairs with cache_get. Reviwed-by: Jeff Layton <[email protected]>
