CVE-2024-47729

MediumCVSS 5.5
Published: Updated: Translated: NVD NIST

Summary

In the Linux kernel drm/xe driver, user binds map to engines that can fault, and faults depend on user binds completion, which can cause a deadlock. To avoid this, a reserved copy engine is used for user binds on faulting devices.

Risk Assessment

This can lead to deadlocks and system hangs on devices with Intel Xe graphics. It affects system stability and availability.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version containing the fix that uses a reserved copy engine for user binds on faulting devices.

Original NVD description (English source)

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/xe: Use reserved copy engine for user binds on faulting devices User binds map to engines with can fault, faults depend on user binds completion, thus we can deadlock. Avoid this by using reserved copy engine for user binds on faulting devices. While we are here, normalize bind queue creation with a helper. v2: - Pass in extensions to bind queue creation (CI) v3: - s/resevered/reserved (Lucas) - Fix NULL hwe check (Jonathan)
