Summary

A vulnerability has been identified in the Linux kernel's taprio module, which involves a lack of validation for the TCA_TAPRIO_ATTR_PRIOMAP attribute. If this attribute is provided, a user can inject arbitrary data into the kernel during the second call to the taprio_change() function.

Risk Assessment

This vulnerability may lead to unpredictable system behavior, posing a risk of kernel instability and potential attacks on system integrity.

Recommendation

It is recommended to update the Linux kernel to the latest version where this vulnerability has been patched to minimize the risk associated with data injection.

Original NVD description (English source)

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net/sched: taprio: always validate TCA_TAPRIO_ATTR_PRIOMAP If one TCA_TAPRIO_ATTR_PRIOMAP attribute has been provided, taprio_parse_mqprio_opt() must validate it, or userspace can inject arbitrary data to the kernel, the second time taprio_change() is called. First call (with valid attributes) sets dev->num_tc to a non zero value. Second call (with arbitrary mqprio attributes) returns early from taprio_parse_mqprio_opt() and bad things can happen.
