Summary

A memory leak exists in the Linux kernel's hci_req_sync_complete() function in the Bluetooth subsystem. The function fails to free the previous sync request state before assigning a reference to a new one, leading to a gradual memory leak.

Risk Assessment

Prolonged system operation may lead to kernel memory exhaustion and system instability or crashes. The risk mainly affects systems that heavily use Bluetooth.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version containing the fix for this issue. If updating is not possible, limit or monitor Bluetooth usage on affected systems.
