Summary

In the Linux kernel, the media: usbtv driver removed unnecessary lock calls in usbtv_video_free() that could lead to a deadlock. The usbtv_stop() call was also removed since it is invoked when unregistering the device.

Risk Assessment

A deadlock may hang the system or process when disconnecting a USB device, causing a denial of service. The issue can occur both while streaming and when not streaming.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version containing the fix. Until then, avoid disconnecting usbtv devices during active streaming.
