Summary

In the Linux kernel, the netfilter nf_tables module has an issue where the dormant flag is not set again if hook registration fails. This can lead to a table marked as active but with no registered hooks, causing a warning on unregistration.

Risk Assessment

This can lead to system instability and potential exploitation for denial of service attacks by triggering kernel warnings.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version that includes the fix for this issue.

Original NVD description (English source)

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: netfilter: nf_tables: set dormant flag on hook register failure We need to set the dormant flag again if we fail to register the hooks. During memory pressure hook registration can fail and we end up with a table marked as active but no registered hooks. On table/base chain deletion, nf_tables will attempt to unregister the hook again which yields a warn splat from the nftables core.
