Summary

A flaw was found in openshift-gitops-operator-container where the openshift.io/cluster-monitoring label is applied to all namespaces deploying an ArgoCD CR instance, allowing creation of a rogue PrometheusRule that is rolled out cluster-wide, adversely affecting the platform monitoring stack.

Risk Assessment

The risk involves potential disruption of cluster monitoring by introducing malicious Prometheus rules, leading to false alerts, loss of system visibility, or attacks on monitoring infrastructure.

Recommendation

It is recommended to immediately update openshift-gitops-operator-container to the latest patched version and restrict permissions for creating PrometheusRule resources to trusted namespaces only.
