CVE-2024-0408
MediumCVSS 5.5Exploitation Probability (EPSS)
Low risk25th percentile - higher than 25% of all known CVEs
Summary
A flaw was found in the X.Org server. The GLX PBuffer code does not call the XACE hook when creating the buffer, leaving it unlabeled. When the client issues another request to access that resource (as with a GetGeometry) or when it creates another resource that needs to access that buffer, such as a GC, the XSELINUX code will try to use an object that was never labeled and crash because the SID is NULL.
Risk Assessment
This can lead to a crash of the X server, causing denial of service for graphical applications. In environments with SELinux enabled, it may also affect access control.
Recommendation
Update the X.Org server to a version containing the fix. In the meantime, consider restricting access to the X server for untrusted clients.
Other vulnerabilities in X.Org Server
See all- CVE-2024-0229High
An out-of-bounds memory access flaw was found in the X.Org server. It can be triggered when a device frozen by a sync grab is reattached to a different master device, potentially leading to an application crash, local privilege escalation, or remote code execution in SSH X11 forwarding environments.
- CVE-2024-0409High
A flaw was found in the X.Org server. The cursor code in both Xephyr and Xwayland uses the wrong type of private at creation, using the cursor bits type with the cursor as private, and when initiating the cursor, that overwrites the XSELINUX context.
