Summary

An unconstrained memory consumption vulnerability was discovered in Keycloak. It can be triggered in environments with millions of offline tokens (more than 500,000 users, each having at least 2 saved sessions). If an attacker creates two or more user sessions and then opens the "consents" tab of the admin User Interface, the UI attempts to load a huge number of offline client sessions, leading to excessive memory and CPU consumption which could potentially crash the entire system.

Risk Assessment

An attacker could cause resource exhaustion and crash Keycloak, making the service unavailable to all users. The risk mainly affects large environments with many offline tokens.

Recommendation

Update Keycloak to a version containing the fix and restrict access to the administrative interface to trusted networks and users.
