The Netfilter subsystem of the Linux kernel has a race condition between IPSET_CMD_ADD and IPSET_CMD_SWAP that can cause a kernel panic by invoking __ip_set_put on the wrong set. A local user may thereby crash the system.

Risk Assessment

A local user can trigger a kernel panic and cause a denial of service (DoS) across the whole system.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version containing the fix for CVE-2023-42756 and restrict local access to untrusted users.
