Summary

A vulnerability in the Embedded Service Router (ESR) of Cisco ISE could allow an authenticated, local attacker to read, write, or delete arbitrary files on the underlying operating system and escalate privileges to root. It is due to improper privilege management in the ESR console, and an attacker could send a crafted request to an affected device.

Risk Assessment

A successful exploit could allow the attacker to elevate privileges to root and read, write, or delete arbitrary files from the underlying operating system. Valid Administrator-level privileges are required to exploit the vulnerability.

Recommendation

Apply the available Cisco ISE updates that fix the ESR vulnerability. Verify whether ESR is enabled (Administration > Settings > Protocols > IPSec) and disable it if not required.
