CVE-2022-49328
HighCVSS 8.8Exploitation Probability (EPSS)
Low risk35th percentile - higher than 35% of all known CVEs
Summary
A use-after-free vulnerability was found in the Linux kernel's mt76 driver (for MediaTek Wi-Fi cards). The issue involves a wcid pointer in mt76_txq_schedule that was not protected by RCU, leading to a reference to freed memory during transmission scheduling.
Risk Assessment
The vulnerability could cause a system crash (panic) or potentially arbitrary code execution in kernel context by a local attacker with access to the Wi-Fi interface. In practice, the risk is moderate but requires a kernel update.
Recommendation
It is recommended to immediately update the Linux kernel to a version containing the fix (commit removing the non-RCU wcid pointer). Also monitor distribution security advisories and apply appropriate patches.
