High risk
2.81%

85th percentile - higher than 85% of all known CVEs

Summary

The web management console of CheckMK Enterprise Edition (versions 1.5.0 to 2.0.0p9) does not properly sanitize uploaded .mkp files (Extension Packages), allowing remote code execution. Exploitation requires access to the management interface with valid credentials or a hijacked admin session.

Risk Assessment

An attacker with admin privileges can fully compromise the CheckMK server, leading to data theft, configuration changes, or further network attacks.

Recommendation

Restrict management console access to trusted administrators only and enforce strong multi-factor authentication. The vendor considers this behavior intentional, so no patch is required, but access controls should be strengthened.

Original NVD description (English source)

The web management console of CheckMK Enterprise Edition (versions 1.5.0 to 2.0.0p9) does not properly sanitise the uploading of ".mkp" files, which are Extension Packages, making remote code execution possible. Successful exploitation requires access to the web management interface, either with valid credentials or with a hijacked session of a user with administrator role. NOTE: the vendor states that this is the intended behavior: admins are supposed to be able to execute code in this manner.
